Darius Rucker To Speak At USC's Graduation
Country music star Darius Rucker will be among a group of speakers for the University of South Carolina's spring commencement.
The school said Rucker, former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, and Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom Phil Lader will all be part of a two day ceremony.
Rucker is set to speak at the 11 a.m. ceremony on May 11th where he'll also recieve an honorary doctorate in music.
Rucker hit stardom in the 90s with his fellow bandmates in"Hootie and the Blowfish," which got its start at USC. Since then he's transitioned to a successful country career.
Gates will speak at 3 p.m. on May 10th, while Lader will speak at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Gates served as defense secretary for five years under both Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. In addition to working for the State Department, Lader was a former president of Winthrop University.
